A Day in Heaven
Car Blast
status - complete
Watch final version (1MB)

In this scene there is a false start on the car, the characters are inside ready for the first trip when the engine, on the back and under the hood, explode with a puff of thick smoke.  This scene is split into 4 parts, a shot of the back of the car, a shot of the front of the car, a shot of the guy, a shot of the boy, and back to the guy.

The first part in this scene is the shot of the car blast from behind.  I have some things going for me here.  The camera is locked so I won't need to track anything and there are only 35 frames that I need to create smoke effects for.

I am going to have to create the flash and smoke that spills out from under the car in 3D and then composite them into the plate.  I will also have to add a little camera bump.

This shot has been completed, CLICK HERE FOR MOVIE! (6.2MB)

For the time being I have put this on the "if I have time I might get to it, but otherwise I don't think it is that necessary considering all the other shots I have to do in such a short time frame."

So I ditched it, we will see if the scene works without this shot.

The last three shots are really two shots that bounce back to each other.  I need to create background smoke, and smoke coming off the actors.  The first and last shots have a little bit of camera movement, while the second one has a lot.

I don't expect too much trouble with these, My CG smoke never looks that great so it's going to be a little cartoony.

Fortunately a cartoony look will fit into the movie.

If  I have time I would like to have the kid cough a lump of coal.  I think that might be a good gag.
