This is my first animated short that made it into a film festival!
This was a collaboration between artist Sheldon Harvey
and writer Rhiana Yazzie and myself in an attempt to bring Sheldon's
amazing characters to life in stylized cartoon form. Sheldon
is an amazing artist you can see some of his stuff
HERE.
His paintings are the inspiration for the coyote and the
world comes from a collaboration with Chris Kintz and Rhiana Yazzie.
It takes place in the yellow world when creatures are still in their
spirit forms. This was a fun project, if I ever had time or
the resources I would love to work on this stuff some more. This
is more of a proof of concept short that is still quite rough.
The whole thing came together very fast and from start to finish was
done in one month with zero budget. Other fun information
includes the fact that I had never spoken to Rhiana or Sheldon until
the short was done, all communication went through Chris. I
am not sure why that happened.
This short was presented at the Santa Fe Film Festival in 2005, I
almost missed the screening! It got a great reception though,
the flea got some laughs. It was a lot of fun
The evolution of the bug into the flea.
Here is a fun little series for those interested in giving shapes some
character,
how to turn a lump with legs into a devious flea.

Here we have the animation, but it looks very robotic.

Add some blinking eyes, it's now a bug, but it's got no personality.

Finally, give him a whacky grin, and a slight pause. Suddenly our character has a personality.
